Welcome to Grad Money Matters!
My name is Sam Baker. Glad to have you on board.
If you are on this page, then this is probably your first visit here. And you have money on your mind. Turns out, that’s exactly what we talk about. What a coincidence, huh?
Over a period of time now, we have collected on this site a wealth of information (pun intended) about making more money thorough direct (eg. start a side business) and indirect (eg. improve your career) means. To make sure you get the most of your time spent here, let me give you a quick overview and get out of the way, so you can decide which direction you want to go next. Sounds cool?
What this site is about…
At the core of its heart, this site is a simple personal finance site. Like most personal finance sites, we focus on money matters that effect individuals. What makes us a little different from the other great personal finance sites out there is that we have a singular, fanatical focus – to help you make more of the money that matters.
The basic premise of this site is captured in this article below. It took me a long time to write it since I wanted to keep it simple, yet capture the essence of what drives this site. I am quite happy with the way it turned out, though. No matter where in life you stand, I guarantee you, you will take away something from it.
As you can see from the article, I believe firmly that while “live frugally” and “save for the rainy day” are essential goals to work towards, it is equally important to try and increase your income if you want to get, and stay, well ahead of the pack. Be it through a successful career, through side income projects, or hopefully both, you need to figure out ways to bump up in in-flow. And that’s pretty much what we will focus on here.
Increase your primary income…
Now to most people, the easiest way to bump up the in-flow of money is to increase their primary income by excelling in the job – either in the corporate world or a business that you run/work at.
In today’s fast paced world, that means you need to work smarter and not just harder, be more efficient, master communication skills and self-promotion skills — in addition to the traditional methods of improving the skills that are specific to the job.
We have two sections of articles that will offer you tips and suggestions to hone these “meta” skills – one focused on excelling in the corporate world, and the other in the business world.
Look for some side income…
Another way to increase your income is to try your hand at some side income projects. We believe that anybody can find a way to increase their income this way. If someone says they cannot, whatever the excuse is — no time, no start up money etc., — then they just mean they have not found a money making idea that is a right fit for them, yet. Because once you find an idea that resonates with you, all the excuses melt away and you will be thrilled and exhilarated at how easily you can turn something you love into a stream of income.
So we provide you a massive collection of ideas at
Explore the articles in this section leisurely and figure out what works for you. This page is a “table of contents” of sorts, listing all the information we have collected (and are still collecting) about the different ways in which you could make some extra money.
The first article in each sub-category will explain in detail what the idea is about, any pre-requisites that are needed, how much money you need to invest to get started, how much you can expect to make, the advantages, disadvantages etc.
Following this “basics” article in each sub-category are several more articles that will provide you a better feel for the idea. No matter what your unique circumstances and skill set, if you spend a little bit of time exploring this section, you are bound to find something that will work just for you.
Increase your side income…
Once you pick your money making idea (or if you already have one), you can head back over here to learn how to amplify your side income.
This cornerstone section of the site not just caters for those who earn a primary income in the business world but also to those that are generating side income through entrepreneurial ventures. Essentially, to succeed, both need the same things – just at a different scale. In this section we provide comprehensive articles to nurture the entrepreneur in you, so you can take your business ideas from mere ideas to big time money makers. There are how-to guides, tutorials, action tips and a whole lot more for a budding entrepreneur to build a bustling revenue stream.
