Should You Look for a Part-Time Job Or Start a Side Hustle?

If you are looking to make extra money, then finding a part-time job or side hustle may be for you. There are positives and negatives to each though. For me, I’m all for finding a side hustle. However, I know of many who prefer to find a side job. Do you know what the differences are though? Many think they have the same meaning, but they are slightly different.

Should You Look for a Part-Time Job Or Start a Side Hustle? Here are a few of the positives and negatives of having a part-time job or a side hustle:

A side hustle means you are probably your own boss.

This can be a great thing, but it can also bring on added stress. Being your own boss is pretty amazing though.

However, don’t forget about expenses. You are in charge of expenses, bad months, good months, and everything that you can think of.

A part-time job usually means less money upfront.

If you are looking for a part-time job, usually you are working for someone else. This means that you will have a boss, and this person would probably be paying for expenses such as the storefront, rent, inventory, shelving, and whatever else is needed.

This can be a lot less stress because you are just working designated hours and you will get paid no matter what. If the company has a bad month, you will still get paid.

A side hustle might mean more flexibility.

A side hustle is usually done on your own time. You can create your own schedule and work around your full-time job if you have one. This can be a lifesaver because it can make everything much more easier.

When I had my day job, I would work around my full-time schedule. It was nice because I could work whenever I needed or wanted to.

A part-time job may mean a set schedule.

The negative of a part-time job means that you will have a set schedule. So, even if you are tired after a long day at your full-time job, you may have to go into your part-time job no matter what.

A side hustle might make you more money.

One big positive that a side hustle has over a part-time job is that a side hustle has the potential to make you more money. You are you own boss, and you can work as hard and as long as you would like.

What would you rather have? Why?

  1. A few months ago, I found myself at this very crossroad. Sure, a part-time job meant more money right away but in the long run, the side-hustle is the obvious choice for me. I love the respect I gain for myself knowing I work for myself. I have yet to regret it.
