Is Work Life Balance a Real Thing?

I keep hearing more and more about work life balance. Is it a real thing though? As someone who works countless hours each week, I can honestly say that it does exist. However, that only holds true if you follow the tips below.

It is very easy to let life escape you and focus on work too much. That’s not good though. You want to have time to eat dinner with your family, enjoy the outdoors with your loved one, time to unwind and relax, and so on.

Below are my tips to create a better work life balance for yourself:

Is Work Life Balance a Real Thing?Don’t bring your work home.

This isn’t something that everyone has the luxury of being able to do. However, if you work out of the home, then just don’t bring your work home. Leave files at work, leave your work phone at work, leave your laptop at work and more, if you can.

If you work from home, then you need to create a work schedule and stick to it. For example, you can make it so that everyday after 6 p.m., you stop working. Then, actually stop at that time!

Schedule tasks in a way that works best for you.

For me, I work best only during certain times of the day. I only try to work during these times so that I can be as productive as possible. This then eliminates any time I usually waste because I am too tired, too hungry, and so on.

Another way to do is to be more efficient is to work a certain way. You may do certain tasks that are either harder or that are more time consuming first to knock them out, or you may do easier tasks first to knock all the little tasks out of the way. This can give you motivation to finish your work with some kind of method.

Cut out time suckers.

If you want more time to enjoy life, then you will need to cut certain things out of your life completely or at least a little bit. You might cut out Facebook, TV, movies, Twitter, and more. You need to learn how to be efficient with your time.

Start saying no.

Some people are just really bad at saying no, and this then leads to them being more busy. You should cut out any unnecessary tasks from your life so that you have more time for the things that really matter.

Do you have a good balance with work and life? Why or why not?

  1. I remember the first time I said no. I was terrified. Not really because of the response, but because of the loss of the project and future opportunities it *might* present. But the second I sent, I felt this sense of empowerment.

I need to figure out a way to effectively use social media without it sucking me in. That’s probably my biggest downfall. So many great people sharing so many great things…how could I not click through? And then my allotted time is over.
