How To Successfully Sell on eBay

Selling items on eBay can be a great way to make a part-time or even sometimes a full-time income. You can work from the comfort of your home, sell items around your house or you can sell items that you buy just so that you can sell them later on eBay.

How To Successfully Sell on eBayHowever, selling items on eBay isn’t just as easy as creating a listing. People won’t be flocking to your items on eBay and waiting in a line to purchase them if you don’t really know what you are doing. This can then impact your amount of sales, your revenues, and your profits.

Below are my tips to successfully sell on eBay. Hopefully with the tips below you can increase your bottom line!

Take great pictures for your products.

In order to sell on eBay, you need to have at least some photography skills. The better the photos are that you take, the more likely you will have more bidders and possibly make more money as well.

Your pictures don’t need to be absolutely amazing where they would be in a magazine, but the customer should know exactly what they are buying and not be fooled that the product is something different than what it actually is.

Provide a thorough description on your listing.

Depending on the value of the item you are selling, you should provide a thorough description so that a potential buyer knows what they are buying.

A shirt or a pair of shoes definitely does not need as much description or as many pictures as a car, so you can usually gauge how much detail you should include by what competing sellers are writing, and how much the item is worth.

Receive excellent feedback on eBay.

Feedback says a lot about a seller on eBay. If I find an item I like but I see that they have horrible reviews, I often decide not to purchase the item. I would much rather be safe than waste my time on money by purchasing through a fraudulent eBay seller.

Price your items correctly on eBay.

The last area that will help you become a better a successful eBay seller is that you should always price your items correctly.

You should do your research and see what the item is worth. You should also see what other similar listings are actually selling for on eBay as well. If the price on the item you are trying to sell is too high, then customers might be completely avoiding your item. This can cost you customers and sales, which is something you definitely do not want.

This also means that your shipping costs should be as close to the correct amount as possible. No one wants to see an item for $0.99 and the shipping to be $45. That is just insane and makes no sense.

Do you sell on eBay at all? What tips do you have for someone who wants to be successful at selling on eBay?

Making Money From Home – What you need to know

Making money from the comfort of your own home is a topic that is discussed here a lot at Grad Money Matters. Whether your goal of working from home if to just make a little extra money on top of your full-time job, or if you want to eventually make your home job into your full-time job, there are many things that you need to know.

Once you decide on what legitimate home business idea or what side job that you want to start, you have to start thinking about how you are going to start it, and what you are going to do to become successful. Preparing to work from home is very important.

Making Money From Home - What you need to know

http://www.flickr.com/photos/liamdunn/2683642114/

You might have a bad month.

If your side job income is something that you really rely on (or maybe your home business is already your full-time job!), then a bad month is something that should be expected and you should be prepared for it.

No, I am not saying that you should be negative about working at home and always worried about a bad month, but you should be prepared for it and not let it break you down when something does happen.

Having a well-funded emergency fund can really help you with preparing for self-employment and a bad month. Also, living on less than your income (if you can help it), is also a very wise idea. Recently, Diversified Finances published an article about emergency funds which you should read.

You need to be accountable and have some sort of schedule.

Yes, it would be nice to think that working from home means that life will be super easy and that you can do things whenever you want. But it would probably be best to have some sort of schedule so that you can be as efficient and effective with your self-employment.

Having a routine can be very beneficial for those who work at home.

Have a place where you can concentrate.

Having a place where you can concentrate when you work at home has so many positives. If you can have a place where you can have uninterrupted work, then you will be able to complete tasks much more quickly.

If you have children, then it might be best to find a babysitter, nanny or a daycare. Just because you are working at home does not make the work any less harder! Some think that this is wrong, but what is best for your kids?

Also, having a home office can be very great as well. You want a place where you can stay organized and escape to when you need to work. If you have an extra room, transform that into a home office. If you don’t have an extra room, maybe designate an area in your family room for your business.

What else would you add to this list? Do you want to work at home?

A quiet night in: an exercise in frugal saving.

image1As much as any couple, family or group of friends might like going out, it’s never cheap. Whether it’s fine dining or going out to your local bar or restaurant, these are costs that add up all too easily. They may seem cheap once in a while but once you start doing it on a weekly or semi-regular basis, it becomes a larger and larger chunk of your expenses.

In contrast to this, understanding the benefits of a quiet night in can prove useful. More than offering something different and relaxing it can demonstrate a way to stay cheap and cost effective whilst still enjoying the usual perks of life.

Food

If you go out to eat, you should know how much this can cost. Cooking for yourself is usually the cheapest but there are still other options. For instance, if you have the urge for Chinese food, it may be cheaper for everyone to pool money together for chinese takeaways than visit your local restaurant. It’s much cheaper and doesn’t have the added costs of additional drinks and restaurant prices and other service charges that are often forgotten about.

Entertainment

Likewise, if you’re not going out, there is nothing to stop you from being social. Your home can prove entertaining enough with the right company. Cheap entertainment can be anything from a movie rental (if you’re only going to watch it once, don’t buy something you don’t need) to various games, which offer entertainment again and again. These are all cheap, whether you use it once or buy it to use again and again. This is another lesson to be learnt in saving, by understanding the real value of something.

If you come across some movies that you and your friends love, it makes sense to purchase the DVD so you can all watch it whenever you like. Luckily, you can save money by ordering your DVDs online, so you do not have to worry about breaking the bank. To make things more interesting, consider having each person purchase a DVD online and then choosing between your favorites every time you gather.

Additional expenses

Hopefully the two areas above should highlight how easy it is to cut down on those little costs for every social occasion but there are always other areas to look at. Take your appearance, for instance. If you don’t go out to an expensive restaurant you might not need to risk your best shirt or shoes. It can also save on other expenses, such as getting a taxi home late if you’ve been drinking or other travel costs.  So, next time you think you might go out, suggest staying in to the others and see how much can be saved.

Making Money with eBay

Have you ever tried to sell something online? If you have, then you might have used eBay to list your items and look for bidders/buyers. Some people are able to make a decent amount of money by selling their products through eBay, and some people don’t have any good luck at all.

It can be hard to profit from eBay sales in order to live off of your eBay earnings, but it can be well worth it if you are dedicated and good at what you are doing. I actually know of a couple of people who this worked very well for.

Find items in your home

If you are like me, then you probably have tons of things already in your home that you can list online. Maybe you have something vintage-like that will sell for a lot of money. Maybe you just have  a nice dress that you know will fetch a lot of bidders.

If you decide not to sell stuff that is already yours, you can either make something on your own or buy from a wholesaler and sell online. The options are unlimited for what you can sell.

Take great pictures

Pictures are key when it comes to selling something online. Most people who are shopping online will want some sort of picture so that they can make sure that they are about to buy the correct item. Be sure to show as many angles as you can, and make sure the lighting is flattering for the object.

With a more expensive product listing, you may even want to get professional photography done if you are not very good at taking pictures. A bad quality picture can definitely mean a loss when it comes to how much more you could have sold it for if only you would have had better photography of the product that you wanted to sell.

Don’t forget about the details

When listing your item, be sure to include all details. Being a customer online is tough, because you don’t know exactly what you are buying. This is where you come in. Very thorough details in your product listing will help the customer decide if that is the correct item for them or not.

For example, if it’s a clothing item, be sure to include length, width, size, colors and so on. If it is something older, be sure to describe its use, what year it’s from and other similar features that may be asked.

Respond to all e-mails and messages

When you sell items online, occasionally potential buyers will reply to your listing with questions. Make sure to answer these questions thoroughly and in a professional manner. Being polite to everyone is very important because you never know if they will tell others about your products, or if they will be giving you a rating.

Also, just having great customer service is important also of course! 🙂

How to Import: A Guide for eBay Sellers

[Last week I published a guest post about importing from China. That article seemed to have got some of the readers dabbling in eBay excited about a new option they have not explored before for cutting through the competition. I had several mails asking me about some of the basics of getting started. Since the guest author, Alice, is an expert on this topic, I asked her if she could help us with a more basic How-To guide. And she was kind enough to oblige. I hope this will come in handy for some of you.]

I recently wrote a post about The 6 Essential tips for importing from China. Not surprisingly, it sparked an interest among some of the enterprising readers about what is possible when you import items from China to sell on eBay and they want to learn more. So, I have put together this little guide to cover some of the finer points of importing goods from China to the US. Read on to equip yourself with the knowledge you need to import cut-price goods to resell for a profit.

Finding a supplier

Obviously this is the first step to importing anything. I covered some crucial tips in my last post, but if you need a refresher, the main things to remember when ordering from an overseas supplier, from China or elsewhere, are:

  • Use safe payment methods such as PayPal or ProPay. These payment methods offer you some level of protection if something goes wrong between the time when you pay the supplier and when you receive and inspect the items at your home or warehouse.
  • Be wary of on large marketplace-style wholesale websites such as DH Gate. While there are plenty of trusted suppliers here who offer great service, these sites are also rife with scammers posing as suppliers who will either take your money and run, or deliver you poor quality items that you won’t be able to give away, let alone sell for a profit.

Ensuring that you can legally import your chosen items

Common sense can often determine whether you can import a particular item, but it’s worth doing a thorough check anyway to avoid the disappointment of spending time and money trying to import something that you cannot legally bring into the country.

Check out the Customs and Border Protection’s list of restricted items and prohibited items to check your items are fine to bring in.

Importing from China to Sell on eBay: 6 Essential Tips for Successful Importing

If you are interested in making money on eBay, you might be aware of the fact that some sellers find that competition on the eBay marketplace a little intense.

For many items such as electronic gadgets like mobile phones and mp3 players, it’s pretty much impossible for a new seller to make sales. This is because you are going head-to-head with long-term sellers with big budgets (they often make wholesale orders of over $20,000 -$30,000 at a time) which is difficult to compete with.

However, there are still a lot of unsaturated markets on eBay and therefore, there are still plenty of opportunities for you to cash-in. One of the best ways to ensure fast sales on eBay is importing from China, the global manufacturing giant.

When you import from China, you open yourself up to being able to source products that sell like hotcakes on eBay at a fraction of the cost of sourcing them locally. Products at 60% below retail prices? Yes please!

Importing from China isn’t as complicated as you might think. Here are six essential tips to help get you started.

Take precautions when importing from china

This is especially true when you order from suppliers on DHGate, China Vision, iOffer, etc. While these sites can have some exceptional bargains, they are also rife with dodgey suppliers who are offering products that are of such poor quality that you will have trouble selling them. In some cases, products bought from sellers on these sites never even show up. Your best protection is checking the suppliers feedback score (most wholesale marketplaces have feedback systems just like eBay) and contacting the supplier for a chat before you purchase anything.

Above all, remember that if a deal seems too good to be true, it probably is.

How You Too Can Get Started on eBay in a Very Short Time, with Minimal Investment

If you are thinking of creating an eBay store that sells merchandise, there are various things you should consider before doing so. The type of merchandise you will be selling is obviously one of the most important things to determine. You don’t want to sell merchandise that is also being sold by a thousand other people on eBay.  If you happen to end up selling things that other people offer, you definitely need to make your store, photos, and descriptions unique to make your listing pop out.

Besides that, the next most important thing to consider before starting your store is whether or not you will be holding stock of your items, and whether you will be shipping your items to customers. Some people would rather keep stock and ship their products, but some people prefer not to. People that do not want to stock and ship their items should consider dropshipping. Wikipedia defines dropshipping as

Drop shipping is a supply chain management technique in which the retailer does not keep goods in stock, but instead transfers customer orders and shipment details to either the manufacturer or a wholesaler, who then ships the goods directly to the customer. As in all retail businesses, the retailers make their profit on the difference between the wholesale and retail price.

Dropshipping can be a very good way to get your eBay business up and running in a very short time, without spending a ton of money. But, there are some downfalls to it as well. Before you think about dropshipping on Bay, there are many pros and cons that should be taken into consideration.

Making Money on eBay: 10 Tips for Super Star Selling

One of the many legitimate online money making ideas is to sell on eBay.com. eBay is an auction site used by millions of people worldwide to sell and buy items. The income potential through selling on eBay isn’t set in stone – there are people who make millions, and then there are people who actually lose money when they don’t sell their listed items.

If you have something you think people will want to buy, you can list it for an eBay and hope to sell it, or you can follow these 10 tips and become an eBay super star seller.

#1 Sell What You Have

Many eBay novices believe that they have to go out and buy items to sell for profit on eBay. The problem with this is you may pay more for the item than what you can get for it. If you spend hundreds of dollars on items to sell and those items don’t sell, you are out of those hundreds of dollars and the money you paid in eBay listing fees.

The best way to test the eBay waters is to sell something you have sitting around the house. If you have a DVD, vacuum cleaner, textbooks, or knick knacks that you think might make some money, list them, and then learn by trial and error what sells and how to sell it.
